List of geostationary satellites |
EchoStar T1 and TerreStar-1 are names for a communications satellite that was operated by the American TerreStar Corporation .
The satellite, developed by Space Systems / Loral on behalf of Terrestar Networks Inc., was launched on July 1, 2009 at 17:52 UTC by an Ariane 5 ECA from the ELA-3 launch site in Kourou into a geostationary transfer orbit between 250 and 35,941 km altitude with 6 .01 ° inclination . It was then positioned in geostationary orbit at 111 ° West.
With a launch mass of 6902 kg, the satellite was the heaviest geostationary commercial satellite to date. The cost of the project was estimated at more than $ 500 million.
Send / receive
The EchoStar T1 uses the S-band between 2.0 and 2.2 GHz with the help of an 18-meter antenna that can generate up to 500 coverage zones via a phase array . It provides mobile voice, data, surveillance and messaging services in the United States and in vast areas from Alaska to Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Thanks to the high transmission power of the satellite, the mobile terminals required for this are no larger than normal cell phones, which can do without a larger antenna. The connection to the ground stations is via a normal Ku-band antenna.
