Teruyuki Kagawa ( Japanese 香 川 照 之 , Kagawa Teruyuki ; born December 7, 1965 in Tokyo Prefecture ) is a Japanese actor. In 2009 he played the Japanese Prince Asaka in the German film John Rabe .

Life

Kagawa is the son of Ichikawa Ennosuke III ( 三代 目 市 川 猿 之 助 ), a kabuki actor, and Yūko Hama ( 浜 木 綿 子 ), an actress and member of Takarazuka Revue . After his parents divorced, he was raised by his mother, who continued to act. After graduating from the University of Tōkyō in social psychology in 1989, he made his acting debut in the NHK - Taiga drama Lady Kasuga . He is described as a humble and polite actor.

After he played Prince Asaka in the German-Chinese-French film co-production “John Rabe”, he aroused in Japan with his sentence “I saw this film and learned that the Japanese really did a lot of cruel things” ( こ の映 画 を 見 て 、 本 当 に 日本人 は 残忍 な こ と を 多 く し た の だ と い う う こ と を 知 り ま し た。 ) great criticism.
