Devil's Bridge (Finkenberg)

Devil's Bridge over the Tuxbach near Finkenberg

The Devil's Bridge , also devil bridge called, is a covered wooden bridge , beyond the gorge of Tuxbachs in Finkenberg in Tyrol leads. The bridge was built in 1876 under monument protection ( list entry ), connecting the hamlet Persal in the north and Dornau in the south.

A legend about the building is similar to that about the Teufelsbrücke over the Schöllenen in Switzerland. According to this legend, the devil is said to have built the bridge for the residents, but demanded the first being to cross the footbridge. A clever farmer then outwitted him by first driving a billy goat over the Devil's Bridge. Another legend traces the name of the transition known as Höchst Steg back to a boy who is said to have committed perjury on the bridge and denied his illegitimate child and was thrown into the depths as a punishment. These legends were already known before the construction of today's bridge and thus referred to previous buildings that were described earlier, in the first half of the 19th century. This previous footbridge was already provided with a railing and roof.
