The 411 was a four-piece R & B - girl group from the United Kingdom .
history
The group was formed in late 2002 from singers who had helped British R&B singer Lemar record his version of Al Green's Let's Stay Together . The name of the band was based on the album What's the 411 ? , released by Mary J. Blige . .
In July 2004, On My Knees, the band's first single was released, on which they were supported by the American rapper Ghostface Killah ( Wu-Tang Clan ). The single immediately reached number 4 in the British single charts, but could not gain a foothold internationally. The success of the debut single was finally surpassed three months later with the title Dumb : The single climbed to number 3 in the UK single charts, and just missed the top 20 in Germany.
In November 2004, the band's debut album, Between the Sheets , appeared, for which Ashanti and Diane Warren contributed songs. Despite two commercially successful hit singles and the subsequent release of Teardrops , the album flopped in the international charts. As a result, Sony BMG separated from the group, which then disbanded.
In 2007 they formed anew, initially under the name Sunshyne. From March 2008 then again under their old name The 411. The group was with the exception of the member Suzie Furlonger, who was replaced by Nuala Farelly, again in their old line-up. Although new songs were already written and produced, the girls did not get a new record deal, so the band broke up again.
