The Advertiser is an Australian daily newspaper published in Adelaide , South Australia by News Corporation . The first edition of The Advertiser was published on 12. July 1858 . The newspaper appears Monday through Saturday, while the Sunday edition appears as the Sunday Mail . The Advertiser was founded in 1858 by John Henry Barrow, who was previously the editor of the South Australian Register .

Between 1893 and 1929, Sir John Langdon Bonython was the sole owner of The Advertiser . This supported the movement to found the Australian Federation. The suburb of Canberra , Bonython, was named after him.

In November 1997, The Advertiser moved from being a versatile, all-encompassing newspaper to a smaller format.
