The Austonian is the name of a skyscraper in Austin , Texas . It's 208 meters (683 ft ) tall, making it the tallest building in the city, just under 45 meters taller than the 360 ​​Condominiums. It was also the tallest residential building in North America west of the Mississippi when it was built . It has 56 floors.

history

The Austonian was originally planned to be built in 2006. The $ 200 million project was to tower 213 meters high. This was to be done in the wake of the housing boom in Austin. A year later, the height was reduced to 208 meters. Construction began on August 31, 2007 with the groundbreaking ceremony. On June 4, 2009, it was the second tallest building in the city, taller than the Frost Bank Tower. On July 1 of the same year, it became the tallest building in the city. In 2010 all external work was completed. After the Women's Symphony League Designer Showhouse took place there in May 2010 , it opened in June 2010 and was ready for the first new residents to move into. In November 2010, it received a 5-star rating from Austin Energy Green Building .
