The Beautiful Ones is a song released in 1984 by the American musician Prince , which he wrote , composed , arranged and produced . The rock ballad is included on his album Purple Rain .

Prince recorded The Beautiful Ones on September 20, 1983 at Sunset Sound Studios in Los Angeles . The lyrics are about an emotional love affair . The song is a rock ballad. It begins with Prince's falsetto singing, then the melody begins , played by a piano , organ and synthesizer . The melody is accompanied by Prince with the electric guitar during the song . The song begins rather calmly and slowly with an emotional melody, towards the middle the song gets faster and louder with the rhythm that sets in and then reaches its climax with an electric guitar solo by Prince. At the end the song slows down again and leads into the outro, where it ends with the same melody as at the beginning of the song.

The song has a length of 5:15 min. Stylistically, the song contains influences from funk music, but also influences from soul and rhythm & blues .

In the movie Purple Rain , Prince sings the song on a stage where he meets his rival Morris Day . In the film, Prince dedicates the song to his girlfriend; later they fall in love. The version of the song on the Purple Rain album is slightly shortened; there is a longer unpublished version of the song.
