The Book of Unwritten Tales: Die Vieh Chroniken , or with its fully English title The Book of Unwritten Tales: The Critter Chronicles is a classic point-and-click adventure that was developed by the German studio King Art and published in 2011. The game tells the story of the story of The Book of Unwritten Tales , published about two years earlier .

action

The Cattle Chronicles tell the story of how the adventurer Nathaniel "Nate" Bonnet and his strange companion meet the "Cattle", two of the main characters from the first adventure in The Book of Unwritten Tales series. Nate has just won his airship, the Mary, playing cards, and he's already on the run from the bounty hunter Ma'Zaz. A dramatic aerial battle ends in the cold northern lands, where the cattle have also ended up - together with a bunch of other critters, a crazy animal welfare activist and a polar explorer on yethunt.

Game concept

Like The Book of Unwritten Tales , the plot takes place in a purely fictional world. Compared to its predecessor, the focus of the humorous allusions is much less on classic fantasy. The player can expect an even more colorful mix with a significantly larger proportion of elements from technology and science fiction. Initially, the title was only planned as an extension and therefore has a significantly smaller selection of playable locations and characters. During development, however, the game has grown to an estimated playtime of 10 hours, just two hours less than the first title in the series.

technology

For the graphic display, the manufacturer combines rendered backgrounds with real-time animated and illuminated 3D models, which, however, are largely seamlessly integrated into the scene. The camera position is limited to a fixed point and can only be zoomed and panned, but the visual complexity of the scenes shown is much more detailed than would be possible with graphics calculated entirely in real time, and leaves room for elaborate graphic effects such as Reflections and soft shadows. The developer relies on the free graphics engine OGRE , which is already used by other representatives of the adventure genre.

synchronization

Crimson Cow and King Art have hired well-known voice actors from TV and cinema for the humorous fantasy adventure The Book of Unwritten Tales: Die Vieh Chroniken .

Ratings

  • GameStar : "Die Vieh Chroniken, the successor to the fantasy parody The Book of Unwritten Tales by King Art and Crimson Cow, makes up for minor weaknesses in the puzzle design with a lot of atmosphere." - Rating: 82%
  • Spieletipps.de: “Funny and insane adventure tour that is technically not quite up to date. Nevertheless: You rarely meet more multifaceted characters! "- Rating: 84%
  • 4players.de: “A real cattle can't shake anything: Two years after the bankruptcy of the publisher HMH, the fluffy star from our 2009 adventure is finally getting his series spin-off. In the icy northern lands, adventurer Nathanial "Nate" Bonnett even encounters a whole pack of walking bed rugs - and the world domination plans of the dark sorcerer Munkus. "- Rating: 80%
  • Adventures-Kompakt.de: "In summary," Die Vieh Chroniken "is an adventure game that you have to love because it is graphically and audibly well presented. However, it must also be mentioned that the game turned out a little too short. Where in “The Book of Unwritten Tales” you had the feeling that it would never end, you quickly reached your goal. Five chapters, which are played through very quickly. So of course there aren't as many locations to see as in the first part. On the positive side, however, one must also mention that the purchase price was set significantly lower than in Part 1. Games should be fun and adventure is fun from beginning to end. "- Rating: 82%
  • Adventurecorner.de: Die Vieh Chroniken 'is more than just a worthy successor to one of the best adventure games of recent years, with which KING Art has confirmed its place among the best developers. As in the predecessor, the humor and countless allusions to films or other games also know how to ignite. Only the mentioned problems with the puzzles, some of which can simply be solved too early, and the very rigid linearity ensure that points are deducted. Also, the number of supporting characters and locations is a bit too low and therefore doesn't offer quite as much variety as the predecessor. The varied tasks and the two levels of difficulty, which offer real replay value for the first time in a long time, ensure that it doesn't get boring. Those who liked to play the predecessor cannot avoid 'Die Vieh Chroniken'. And if you don't know 'The Book of Unwritten Tales', you should think about buying the collection that contains both games, because both titles belong in every adventure collection. - Rating: 87%
