The Case Center

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Case Center is an independent international platform for the publication of science-based teaching materials for universities based on the teaching case method / case studies . The teaching method has its origins in the training of law students at Harvard Law School , but is enjoying increasing popularity around the world, especially in the business context. The Harvard Business Cases of the Harvard Business School are well known . These are often used in postgraduate courses such as the MBA . While individual universities such as Harvard sell their case studies directly, The Case Center offers a cross-university platform for publication.

The case studies usually come from experienced university lecturers and are based on real company situations and challenges, which have been analyzed and processed, for example, in a qualitative study and in-depth interviews. Submitted cases contain not only a first descriptive part for students, but also a, usually much more detailed, second part with background information on the case, a literature search, scientific methods, as well as sample questions, possible blackboard pictures and sample solution approaches for professors. Before publication, the studies go through a peer review process, comparable to journal publications.

The Case Center is a non-profit organization and claims to publish the largest database of management cases. Several times a year, competitions are held to award prizes to submitted case studies in various categories, scientific newcomers, but also to special teaching methods.
