The Connaught is a 5-star hotel on Carlos Place in the London borough of Mayfair .

history

A first hotel was opened in 1815 by Alexander Grillon on Albermale Street, Mayfair under the name Prince of Saxe Hotel . The Duke of Westminster had changed the environment for it; this is how Carlos Place was created. In 1892 the then owner Scorrier decided to convert the hotel, but it took two years before the building could be demolished and the new construction started.

During World War II, the French general in exile Charles de Gaulle and the American admiral Alan G. Kirk, who planned the invasion of Normandy, lived in Connaught.

The new Coburg Hotel was opened in 1897. During the First World War in 1917 it was decided that the name of the hotel should sound less German; it was eventually renamed The Connaught . This name was inspired by the title of one of Queen Victoria 's sons - Prince Arthur, First Duke of Connaught .

modification

In March 2007, The Connaught was closed for extensive renovations and completely redesigned by Guy Oliver. 88 rooms were newly furnished. The budget for the renovation was £ 70 million

The 5-star hotel reopened in December 2007, followed by the Connaught Bar in 2008. The bar was designed by David Collins and is operated by Agostino Perrone. It has received several international awards, such as the World's Best Cocktail Bar in 2012 and 2016.
