The Dovells
The Dovells was an American singing group from the early 1960s .
history
The quintet was founded in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania in 1957 . It was not until 1960 that they were allowed to audition for a record company and got a record deal. In the summer of 1961 they released their first single, The Bristol Stomp , which went straight to a million-seller .
Until 1963, the Dovells were repeatedly represented in the charts. Then Len Barry left the formation to go solo in the future. When the three singles released by Parkway Records in 1964 were unsuccessful, the Dovells switched to Swan Records , Jamie Records and MGM Records in the following two years , but success was no longer a given, so that the group was renamed The Magistrates in 1968. The single Here Comes The Judge / Girl , which appeared under this band name, was also without sales success. From 1970 records appeared again under their original name Dovells on various labels. Her last single was released in 1974, Dancing In The Street / Back On The Road Again . Then the group broke up. In 1991 Mark Stevens and Jerry Summers brought out an album together for which they re-recorded the old hits of the Dovells.
