The Eidolon is a computer game that Lucasfilm Games (now LucasArts ) developed in 1985 for home computers of the Atari XL series and ported to Apple II , Schneider / Amstrad CPC , Commodore 64 , ZX Spectrum and MSX2 systems. The game is one of the first first-person shooters in computer game history . The game's graphics are particularly remarkable. The cave system in which the game is set is shown in fractal graphics . The graphics engine, which was used in the previous game Rescue on Fractalus , has been further developed.
In the game itself you have to kill monsters and collect precious stones guarded by them. These gems are required to defeat the dragon that guards the exit to the next level. During the journey through the cave system one has to keep an eye on the energy level of the eidolon. In order to recharge its batteries, the eidolon can absorb energy balls floating in the caves or energy balls given off by dragons. There is also a time limit within which the dragon must be killed.
