The Enemy Within. The McClellan Committee's Crusade Against Jimmy Hoffa and Corrupt Labor Unions is a book by Robert F. Kennedy , first published in 1960 and again in 1994. The book is partly written autobiographically.

The book details events and information uncovered by the United States Senate Select Committee on Improper Activities in Labor and Management from 1956 to 1959 . Robert Kennedy was the chief counsel to this committee of inquiry, chaired by John Little McClellan .

Kennedy describes the Teamsters union, led by Jimmy Hoffa as vice-president at the time, as the most powerful institution in the USA next to the US government (1994, p. 161). He writes that George Meany , then president of the AFL-CIO , called Jimmy Hoffa the No. 1 enemy of the unions (1994, p. 161).
