The Essex

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Essex was an American singing group that enjoyed international success for six months from June to December 1963 in the early 1960s .

history

The male members of the group were stationed together in the US Army and in Okinawa . After their return they met the singer Anita Humes and decided to include her in their formation. She took the lease voice.

In 1963 the quintet got a record deal with Roulette Records and the first single "Easier Said Than Done" became a bestseller. On June 8, 1963 it was listed for the first time in the US singles charts and on July 6, 1963 it reached number 1 in the US charts. The track was composed by William Linton and Larry Huff, the single produced by Henry Glover.

The men were formally still members of the Navy, which meant that they needed special permits for appearances and tours and had to wear uniforms.

The successor hit A Walkin 'Miracle was able to place in the US singles charts within the top 20. In November and December 1963, She's Got Everything reached another 56th place. After the end of the army, the band disintegrated.
