Sings the Songs That Made Him Famous The Fabulous Johnny Cash Greatest!

The Fabulous Johnny Cash is the third studio album by the American country singer Johnny Cash . It was released on November 3, 1958 by Columbia Records , was produced by Don Law and sold around 400,000 times when it was first released.

Cash's first work for Columbia included a number one hit on the Billboard Country Charts with Don't Take Your Guns to Town , which became a standard in his concert repertoire with the B-side I Still Miss Someone .

content

Cash sings about similar themes on the album as on his earlier recordings for Sun Records . There are stories of love that either goes well ( Run Softly, Blue River, or Shepherd of My Heart ) or bad ( That's All Over and I Still Miss Someone ). Another song ( I'd Rather Die Young ) leaves the fate of the lovers open.

Two tracks on the album are semi-biographical. Frankie's Man, Johnny is about a woman who is married to a musician. She fears that her husband could succumb to the many female fans on the tours and become unfaithful. Cash's first wife Vivian Liberto once had these fears too, and to reassure them, Cash wrote the song I Walk the Line . Frankie's Man, Johnny has its roots in the traditional ballad Frankie and Johnny , which however deals with a different type of love affair. The piece Pickin 'Time is of cotton and the hard life as a farmer, and That's Enough is also a Gospel -Song included.

Cash is also turning to the Wild West for the first time . Don't Take Your Guns to Town is about a young cowboy named Billy Joe who wants to ride into town one morning. His mother asks him heartily to leave his weapons at home, but he does not listen to her and rides armed into town. He is killed in a shootout in a bar. The song was released as a single and stayed at the top of the country charts for six weeks.
