The Great Society

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Great Society was the first band of Grace Slick , who later became the singer of Jefferson Airplane . Her then husband Jerry and her brother-in-law Darby also belonged to the other cast.

Founded in 1965, the band quickly established themselves in the early hippie scene in the San Francisco Bay Area . Sun played The Great Society often in the matrix , the nightclub of the Jefferson Airplane founder Marty Balin , and released the single Someone to Love / Free Advice .

After Grace Slick succeeded Jefferson Airplane singer Signe Anderson in late 1966, The Great Society broke up. The band only achieved national fame after they broke up: The songs Somebody to Love and White Rabbit , written by Darby and Grace Slick, became chart successes in 1967 in the version of Jefferson Airplane. Columbia then released two Great Society albums in 1968 , mostly with live recordings from the Matrix: How It Was and Conspicuous Only in Its Absence .
