The Inner Circle is the debut album by the German progressive rock band Dante from Augsburg. Published independently and without a publisher in 2008, nothing is known about the number of copies and thus about the national and international distribution of the work.

History of origin

Under the impression of a joint visit to a concert by the American progressive metal band Dream Theater , keyboardist Markus Maichel and guitarist Markus Berger decided to start a musical project together in their private recording studio in 2006. From these studio sessions the progressive metal band Dante developed , which in 2008 released their debut "The Inner Circle".

Production, artwork and advertising were done by members of the band themselves. The album is a so-called in-house production. There are two cover versions of the album, which differ from each other by the appearance of the band's logo. So the album had at least one new edition between 2008 and 2010.

"The Inner Circle" was produced by Markus Berger and Markus Maichel.

Style and reception

Distorted guitars in combination with staccato riffing move the album “The Inner Circle” into the genre of progressive metal , the arrangements of the keyboards, the vocals and the higher proportion of calm, acoustic passages, however, point more towards the genre of progressive rock . The music on the album is typically of a complex nature and is heavily instrumental. Apart from the two ballads featured on the album, the songs are too long.

Music journalists often attribute a stylistic proximity to the works of the band Dream Theater to the album. Thematically, the album deals with the subjects of parting, being lost and doubt from the perspective of the individual in a relaxed concept.

The singer Dantes, Alexander Göhs, is responsible for the artwork of the album, which comes with a 20-page booklet.

"The Inner Circle" received largely benevolent reviews internationally and earned Dante the reputation of a notable newcomer and insider tip within the genres of Progressive Metal and Progressive Rock.

The already mentioned stylistic proximity to the musical role models of the band on “The Inner Circle”, which was sometimes described as unmistakable, is criticized. The alleged lack of significant musical innovations is also often addressed in reviews of the album "The Inner Circle".
