The Irrawaddy

The Irrawaddy ( Burmese ဧရာဝတ, transliterated from MLCTS ei: ra wa. Ti ) is a monthly newspaper published in English and Burmese . The newspaper reports mainly from Burma (Myanmar), but also from the Southeast Asia region .

The Irrawaddy has been published since 1992 and has been published since 1999 by the Irrawaddy Publishing Group in Chiang Mai , Thailand , which was founded in 1993 by Burmese journalists in exile. Editor-in-chief has been Aung Zaw , who left the country after the Burmese military came to power in 1988.

The online edition of the newspaper contains news, interviews and comments, multimedia reports and an archive. The newspaper is seen as a reliable source and is often quoted by international media.

The Committee to Protect Journalists awarded Aung Zaw a prize for freedom of the press in 2014 .
