The Jaybirds are an Austrian sixties mod band from Vienna .

history

The founding took place in 1989, when Bernhard Gold (vocals), Andreas Preisl (guitar), Markus Zöchling (bass) and Thomas Schmitzberger (drums) an authentic Sixties band based on the models of The Who , The Rolling Stones , The Beatles , The Small Faces and The Kinks started . Patrick Nagl (guitar) joined in March 1993 as the fifth member of the band. Andreas Preisl left the band after the second tour in 1994 (Germany, England, Belgium). For him came Norbert Payr (guitar), who, however, left the band in June 1999 before the break from July 2001 to October 2006. The first appearance of the band reunion, again with Norbert Payr, took place on October 28, 2006 with an appearance in the Red Bar in the Vienna Volkstheater .

The band name "The Jaybirds" was chosen based on the model of the Yardbirds , although it is well known that the name was already used for a short time for a band by Alvin Lee in the 1960s. The first live performance took place on May 25, 1991 in Oberschützen. After that, the Jaybirds performed a total of 145 times in Austria, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, England and Belgium until their last concert in Berlin on June 16, 2001. The highlight was the appearance as support for the Rolling Stones (Bridges to Babylon) at the airfield in Wiener Neustadt on July 11, 1998. On November 9, 1999, there was also a support appearance in front of the Yardbirds, the model of the early years. The third and fourth major tour took place in Spain (1995 and 1996). As part of the band reunion (2006 to 2012), the band toured successfully across Europe, including as a support band for the Sonics (London 2008) or the Standells (Madrid 2010). Most of the Jaybirds' engagement took place in the context of European Mod Sixties events, such as B. Beat-O-Mania, Modstock, Purple Weekend, EUROYEYE, Le Beat Bespoke.
