The Kamloops Daily News
The Kamloops Daily News , also known by its simpler name The Daily News , was a local newspaper based in Kamloops , British Columbia , Canada. Most recently it was owned by Glacier Media .
The newspaper was founded in 1931 by George Duncan Brown under the name Kamloops Shopper . In 1937, George Dawson and Watt Francis took over the newspaper and renamed it Kamloops Advertiser . At first no current news was printed, but this became part of the concept from 1963. In 1965 the name of the newspaper was changed to North Kamloops News Advertiser , again just a year later, this time to Kamloops News Advertiser . The newspaper was published twice a week until 1968, then three times a week. In 1973 the word "Advertiser" was removed from the newspaper article. From 1982 the newspaper appeared five times a week from Monday to Friday. In 1986 the newspaper was also published on a sixth day a week, which was accompanied by another name change to The Kamloops Daily News . From 1995 morning delivery to households in Kamloops was introduced.
The Kamloops Daily News, along with some other small daily newspapers in British Columbia, was one of the newspapers that was owned by Hollinger Inc. until recently and was thus part of a Conrad Black newspaper conglomerate . In 2006, Hollinger then sold the remaining stake in the newspaper to Vancouver- based Glacier Ventures International, later called Glacier Media.
On January 6, 2014, The Daily News announced that its publication would be discontinued due to economic considerations.
