The Killing Game Show

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Killing Game Show is a computer game in the run and gun genre that was released in 1990, i.e. a platform jumping game in which you also have to shoot. It was developed by Raising Hell Software (later Bizarre Creations ) for the Amiga and Atari ST and published by Psygnosis . The game was re-released as a Sega Mega Drive port on January 6, 1991 under the title Fatal Rewind by Electronic Arts .

Gameplay

The game is a mix between platform hopping and shoot'em up . It looks very similar to the popular computer and video game Turrican . You control a kind of walker robot. Besides avoiding enemies or shooting down enemies who move in various behavioral patterns, you also have to make the way from the beginning and bottom of the level up to the top and exit. There is a lot of time pressure in the neck and there is an almost claustrophobic anxiety, because the level is gradually filled with a toxic liquid, the level of which rises continuously.

At the beginning of each level the player in the Amiga version could fade in a map using the help button. You can jump, run, climb walls and use special weapons and items. The latter are z. B. Keys that are needed to open certain gates.

A special feature of the game was the so-called "rewind". If you lose a life, the player could "rewind" the game (hence the alternate name "Fatal Rewind") and view the recording of his actions. Shortly before you lost your life, you could switch back to the game by pressing the fire button, intervene in the process and this time try to master the problem area successfully. You can “fast forward” the recordings with the F10 key so that you don't always have to look at everything. This possibility of “spooling” was very unique and convenient back then - and also necessary, because, as in most other Psygnosis titles, the level of difficulty in “The Killing Game Show” was set very high and survival was not easy.

The mega drive version had six levels, each consisting of two parts.
