action

Due to his constant lack of punctuality, Fry disappoints his girlfriend Leela . After he even moved her on her birthday, he invites her to make up for dinner in a posh restaurant. However, he is stopped by Prof. Farnsworth , who wants to test his latest invention with him and Bender : a time machine . In an attempt to travel a minute into the future, the professor accidentally brings the three into the post-apocalyptic year 10,000. Since the machine can only move forward in time, they travel further and further into the future in the hope that mankind will one day develop a machine that enables travel to the past. They stop at different periods in future human history, such as a war against rebelling machines or a time when people were enslaved by giraffes.

At the same time, it is shown how Leela's life continues to develop without Fry: how she leaves the restaurant disappointed, takes over Planet Express and develops it into a successful company, but cannot get over Fry.

At some point, Fry, Bender and the professor travel so far into the future that there is no more life on earth. With no further hope of going back to their time, they decide to see the end of the universe. After the last proton has decayed , they are surprised to see the universe re-emerge in a big bounce . They travel further into the future to get to the time that corresponds to their own. The first attempt fails, after a second run (including another end of the universe and the subsequent Big Bang ) you arrive at the exact moment when you got into the time machine. Upon arrival, they destroy their own alter egos and their time machine.
