history

The history of the Luxury Collection goes back to the Italian hotel group Compagnia Italiana Grandi Alberghi (CIGA) founded in 1906 , which was listed on the Milan Stock Exchange in 1921. In 1985, Prince Karim Aga Khan acquired the majority stake in CIGA and expanded outside Italy for the first time - in particular with the acquisition of hotels in Spain and Austria. Since the takeover of the CIGA by Starwood Hotels & Resorts (then ITT Sheraton ) in 1985, most of these hotels have been run under the The Luxury Collection brand .

Since then, numerous houses have been added. The Luxury Collection includes a number of Sheratons , former Westin hotels and other leading hotels in the Starwood group.

The top hotels of the ITC Welcomgroup Hotels, Palaces and Resorts ( ITC Limited ) in Asia are currently (2009) under the Luxury Collection branding .

In Germany there are two houses of the Luxury Collection, the Hotel Fürstenhof in Leipzig and the Hotel Elephant in Weimar.
In Austria, the Hotel Imperial and the Hotel Bristol on Ringstrasse in Vienna belong to the Luxury Collection. Furthermore the Hotel Goldener Hirsch and the Hotel Schloss Fuschl in Salzburg.
