The Machine (computer architecture)
The Machine is the name for a future computer architecture from HPE .
The project was officially presented in the form of a mock-up on June 10, 2014 at the Discover conference .
construction
A machine consists of:
- 3D ReRAM as universal memory (originally memristors were planned) for "Memory-Driven Computing"
- Optical fiber for data connection between microchips
- Asymmetrical multiprocessor system with processors specializing in a certain task
- a POSIX -compatible operating system kernel specializing in hardware
advantages
- Reduction of power consumption for memory, processor and data transmission
- greater flexibility in the connection between processor and memory thanks to the flexible fiber optic cable
- higher data throughput
- Treating a server farm as a single computer
Kernel
The project envisages porting the Linux kernel, especially for Android . A cooperation with Microsoft for the development of a specialized Windows kernel is not planned so far.
