The minor key

The Minor Key was a Detroit jazz club from the early 1960s, which in its time with Baker's Keyboard Lounge was one of the most important venues for modern jazz .

The Minor Key was operated by Sam Garno; the place (11541 Dexter Avenue near Burlingame Avenue) was in a sales room that had previously served as a furniture store. The venue was opened in the winter of 1958/59; it was Detroit's first jazz café and a well-known venue for jazz musicians in the early 1960s. There occurred u. a. Cannonball Adderley , Miles Davis , Ramsey Lewis , Maynard Ferguson , John Coltrane , Horace Silver Bill Evans Yusef Lateef , Gene Harris Sonny Stitt , Kenny Dorham & Jackie McLean , Lem Winchester and Jimmy Smith . The club closed in 1963. The building that housed The Minor Key was demolished in later years; currently (2016) there is wasteland .
