The Monotones were an American rock and roll singing group. With (Who Wrote) The Book of Love they had in 1958 their only big hit, No. 5 Pop - Charts and number 3 R & B forex charts in the United States.
biography
The group was founded in Newark , New Jersey in 1955 and consisted of Charles Patrick, Warren Davis, George Malone, John Smith, John Ryanes and his brother Warren Ryanes. Patrick's brother James was also there, but soon left. The repertoire consisted mainly of doo-wop songs.
In 1957 the band made their first recording with (Who Wrote) The Book of Love , which stormed the charts in 1958 and helped the group to their brief fame. It could not repeat this success and finally broke up in 1962.
Don McLean mentioned the Book of Love in his 1971 song American Pie as a symbol of the innocence of 1950s rock 'n' roll .
