action

The “The Next Step” studio is run by the choreographers “Miss Kate” and “Chris”. There are different dance groups. From the baby group, in which toddlers dance, to the J group of older children, to the B group, in which there are dancers who did not make it into the A group, and finally the A group, in which the best dance for the regional competition. The audition of the A group is due. Only members of the B group and the previous A group are allowed to perform at this audition. But suddenly a strange girl named Michelle appears. She bears the title "Miss National Soloist", which initially nobody knows. The E-Girls, a group that was founded by Emily, the previous “Dance Captain” of the A-Group, don't like this at all. Emily is now trying all possible means to get Michelle to leave the studio or to be kicked out because she doesn't like members who are new to the team. In the regional competition, the Next-Step-Studio is eliminated after the third round, everything seems lost. But James mentions the wildcard , and “The Next Step” studio actually reaches the semi-finals. In the final, The Next Step wins against Elite and is therefore allowed to take part in the national competition.

season 2

After winning the regional competition, there will be a party in the A-Studio, where the dancers of all dance groups will be invited to “The Next Step” studio. During rehearsals, Amanda, the captain of the opponent's studio, Elite, suddenly appears. She doesn't actually want to dance at "The Next Step" studio, she is only there to prevent the studio from participating in the national competition. But nobody suspects anything of that. Therefore, Kate decides to open an audition in which dancers from other studios can also take part. Michelle's former friend Hunter appears at the audition. After the audition there is actually a new A group. While Emily's friends Tiffany and Stephanie fail to make it back into the team, Hunter and Amanda do. By chance, Emily learns something about Amanda's plan and immediately tells her sister Riley. Emily tries to win Amanda's trust, but the plan doesn't work. However, Amanda is finally discovered and leaves the studio. She fulfilled her plan, because of 12 dancers only nine are left, one too few for the competition. The group manages to win Michelle back with a dance flash mob in a mall. So the studio fights its way from show to show through to the finale. At the end of the semifinals, Emily injured her knee. Once again all seems lost. But then Amanda steps in for Emily because she wants to dance in the finale and make up for the sabotage. Your studio Elite was able to qualify through another regional competition, but was eliminated again against The Next Step. The group wins the national competition for the first time, against the multiple winner "Life Of Dance", also known as "Ladies Of Destruction".

Season 3 (mid-season final)

The next-step studio is to be vacated because Lucien, the head of the elite studio, wants to buy the studio. Since they don't want that, Kate, Phoebe and Lucien decide to do a kind of battle for the A group. The Next Step studio has more dancers in the group, so Kate can keep the studio. Giselle becomes the new dance captain. Once again there is a new A-group, but without Emily, as they say goodbye to the studio. Throughout the season, James was torn between his band and dance. He first decides for the band, but then for dancing. After the internationals, he decided to join the band. It is trained for international competition. This is followed by a kind of exchange program, whereby the Next-Step-Studio takes on a dancer named Ella from England and Amanda goes to Sweden to join another team. She was chosen by Mrs. Kate because she felt that Amanda would not be ready for the international championships, and was also classified as a substitute dancer for Michelle as well. Michelle's parents divorce, which means that Michelle moves back to Madison with her mother. However, she does not want to leave The Next Step and thus misses a lot of training and because of the divorce her thoughts are always elsewhere. Chloe leaves the company because she was selected through a ballet casting with West to dance in a ballet studio. Your replacement will be Stephanie. At the international championships, Ella steals Riley's solo, which means that Giselle has to show something new instead of Riley. In the final are Sweden and The Next Step. After the final dances there is a tie and duets have to be danced to decide. Riley and James win for The Next Step.

Season 4

The Next Step is now the best studio in the world. That's why a lot of new people come to show what they can do in the audition for the new A troop. Almost everyone on the International Team is leaving The Next Step. Elite was closed. Amanda and Michelle want to show that they are not just alternatives. James' little sister also makes it into the A troop. Ms. Kate leaves the studio after being offered the job of a judge on a TV show in the UK. She hands the studio over to Riley because she has great faith in her. However, this also means that Riley can no longer be a dancer in the A troupe. She gives her place to Amanda, because she missed the audition and wants to give her a chance. Skylar and Cierra both want to dance together in the A-troupe, but Cierra messes up the audition and only Skylar makes it. There are innovations for the regional ones. For example, a trio has to be danced. Piper, Noah and Richelle are selected for this. West, James and Eldon also get the offer to dance in a hip-hop battle in London. They all say yes, and after a romantic date with Riley, James goes to London with West and Eldon. Meanwhile, Amanda develops feelings for Noah. Meanwhile, Riley finds out that Alfie is a prince from Switzerland.

characters

  • Emily (Alexandra Beaton) is a contemporary dancer, Riley's older sister and leader of the E-Girls (Emily-Girls). She is dance captain until she leaves the studio and joins Elite Dance. After she gets back to the TNS studio, she becomes co-captain with Michelle. She was Eldon's friend in season one, but breaks up with him when she realizes he has feelings for Michelle. In the second, she has feelings for Hunter and also meets him. She has to leave The Next Step after the national because she was badly injured in her knee. She's going through a big change.
  • Michelle (Victoria Baldeserra) is a new girl from Madison, Wisconsin who is just trying to find her way into the group. After Emily is back in the TNS studio, the two become co-captains. On season two, she leaves the studio for all of the drama, but comes back to realize that her life would not be complete without dancing and The Next Step as her family. She falls in love with Eldon during Season 1. The two become a couple, but split up at the beginning of season 2. She becomes Ms. National Soloist twice in a row. In the third season, however, she is only a substitute dancer / an alternative, as she has to help her newly divorced parents move. In season 4, she no longer wants to be an alternative and tries to try harder.
  • Riley (Brittany Raymond) is a contemporary dancer and Emily's younger sister. She is a member of the E-Girls initially but is kicked out after saying something about Emily. Riley helps Michelle become dance captain. She is the boyfriend of James in season one, but breaks up with him after seeing him and Beth kiss. Shortly before the national team, they come together again and dance their duet with the national team. In the third season she makes it to the international team, but with a bitter aftertaste, because she had to play against James. Together with James, she wins the victory for The Next Step with her duet. In season 4, Ms. Kate hands over the management of the studio to her.
  • James (Trevor Flannagan-Tordjman) is a break dancer who has problems with math. He has had many girlfriends, but later gets together with Riley. However, Riley breaks up with him after seeing him and Beth kiss. He tries to get back together with Riley, however. In the end he makes it and gets back together with her, and they get their duet back for the national team. He's been with Amanda and Beth before. In the third season he is briefly out of the A group because he should have played against Riley, which he refused so that Riley can still dance. When Shantel leaves the team, James takes her place on the international team. After the internationals, he decides to leave The Next Step and continue with his band.
  • Eldon (Isaac Lupien) is a contemporary and the best dancer in the studio. He was in love with Emily for a long time and also gets to meet her in the first season. However, after performing a duet with her, he develops feelings for Michelle. He gets together with Michelle in the second season, but has to break up with her after a lost duel against Hunter. In the third season he develops feelings for Thalia, but cannot get together with her until he has managed 30 pirouettes. The International has a pirouette competition and after he wins it he and Thalia become a couple. After the internationals, he is unsure at first whether to stay in The Next Step Studio, but eventually leaves.
  • Daniel (Brennan Clost) is a ballet and contemporary dancer. He has good technique, but he lacks stage presence. He has to leave the studio because of his foot. In the second season he comes back to the TNS studio, but leaves again because he did not get the national solo and was offered it in the Superstar Dance Studio. In the national team he loses to Eldon. He got an offer to audition at Juilliard, but he botched it. Then he moves to Elite. After losing a place on the international team, he is kicked out of Elite and comes to the auditions that decide who will take Chloe's place. He loses to Stephanie.
  • Stephanie (Samantha Grecchi) is a jazz dancer and Emily's best friend. Her parents are not that enthusiastic about her dance career. She always trusts Emily and is the only one who stands by her when they choose the dance captain. She has always wanted to be famous and since her parents are always absent, she trusts Kate's opinion, she sees her like a mother. She tried to go to Elite Dance with Emily, but failed. Stephanie always wanted to be a triple talent (singer / dancer / actress). She auditioned for a role on a series and got it. However, she rejects them because the filming is simultaneous with the regional. After the national auditions, Stephanie and Tiffany are thrown out of the A group and have to go into the B group. In the third season when Chloe left the A group, there were new auditions. Stephanie didn't want to attend at first, but was persuaded by Emily. After her audition, everyone is unanimous for her, she is officially back in the A group and is allowed to go to the internationals. She is the singer of the song "Play the Game". (Small Group Audition with the J-Group)
  • West (Lamar Johnson) is a quiet hip hop dancer. He often says stupid things and always makes everyone laugh. He doesn't like arguments, so he doesn't like to speak up, but most of the time when he does, people get confused. He's still in the A group even after the regional, at the end of the second season he kisses Emily after they have won the national. However, they later become "just friends". He also makes it back to the A group after the national team. After the internationals, he leaves the studio. And took part in a hip-hop battle with James and Eldon.
  • Chloe (Jennifer Pappas) is a ballet dancer whose parents can't pay the money for the studio, so she has a job and can't fully concentrate on dancing. But the A group helps her because the studio is like family. In season two, Chloe is offered a job in the studio to teach ballet to small children. Chloe is afraid of children, so this job is very difficult for her. One of these children, Margie, becomes like a guardian angel for Chloe and helps her overcome her fear of children. Whenever Chloe has problems, Margie is there to help her and put her on the right track. In season three, when Chloe is offered a role in The Nutcracker and she can't decide whether to accept it or not and West advises her to accept the role in The Nutcracker (because Margie told him to do it), she decides for the nutcracker. After telling Miss Kate, Margie comes and they dance together, after the dance is over, Margie disappears like an angel.
  • Tiffany (Tamina Pollack-Paris) is a hip hop dancer and former e-girl. She is a great actress. When everyone has to choose a dance captain, she chooses Michelle, which shocks Stephanie and Emily very much and costs them their place with the e-girls. She doesn't make it into the A group after the regional because she messes up the turns. She is the singer of the song "Showstoppa". (Michelle's National Solo)
  • Giselle (Jordan Clark) is an acrobatics dancer, but she can do everything else too. She was first in the A group and a member of the E-Girls. However, she had to leave the E-Girls as she was demoted to the B group. She was waiting at the door to get back into the A group. When Emily and Stephanie have left the studio, there is an audition for the B group to get into the A group. Since Stephanie comes back, there is only one place left and Giselle, who is one of Emily's best friends, gets it. She and Daniel grew up together and when she didn't make it into the A group it felt like she was letting him down. Giselle made it to the national team and became dance captain in the third season. After winning the International, she also leaves the studio.
  • Thalia (Taveeta Szymanowitcz) is a new girl in Group A after she won the regional. She is a contemporary dancer from another studio that has won the National, but not even the Regional this year. In the second season, she made a duet with Giselle to motivate James and Riley. This plan went wrong, however, and they had to do the duet first, until James and Riley could get back together. In addition, Giselle, Amanda and she had the small group, which later went to the boys because Amanda left the studio. She makes it back into the team in the third season. And in the fourth season she moved to Poland.
  • Hunter (Zac Vran) is from Madison and is Michelle's ex-boyfriend. He and Emily try to make Michelle jealous. Hunter challenges Eldon to a dance battle, the winner gets Michelle, Hunter wins and Eldon has to break up with Michelle. This battle was filmed by Amanda, she showed it to Michelle, who later shows it to Miss Kate and everyone else in the A group. It is decided that Hunter will now get the national solo. As a result, Eldon likes him even less than before. Hunter later takes Michelle on a date and realizes he has feelings for Emily and the two become a couple. In another dance battle against Eldon, Hunter loses his national solo again. In the third season he does not make it into the international team, because he had to play against Eldon again. He's going back to Madison.
  • Amanda (Logan Fabbro) was Dance Captain at Elite Studio. She was sometimes called "Elite's old Emily," a name referring to Emily's former nature. In the second season she auditioned for the national team and made it. Amanda filmed Hunter and Eldon's dance battle and later shows it to Michelle. She's only on The Next Step to keep her from getting to the Nationals. The others find out and send them back to Elite. She'd had dates with James once. No matter how much she competed with The Next Step and cheated on the others - somehow the others can forgive her a bit and she takes Emily's place in the national finals, because she couldn't dance because of her injured knee. For the third season she is a full member of the TNS studio. Amanda also makes it to the international team, but Kate sends her to Sweden for an exchange that every participating studio in the international has to do. After she was only a substitute dancer with the international, she wants to improve again and get into the A group.
  • Noah (Myles Erlick) is a dancer who was without in the first season and in the second together with Richelle in the J-group and in the third is accepted together with Richelle in the A-group. He makes it into the international team, unlike Richelle. He fell in love with Abi (from Elite / from the B group), he had to compete against her for the international course. Even after the internationals, he made it into the A group. In season 4 he was with Amanda.
  • Richelle ( Briar Nolet ) is an acrobatics, ballet and contemporary dancer who wants to be a dance captain one day, J-Gruppen member, she participated in the auditions for the national team together with Noah. After Emily had to leave the studio because of her knee, she was allowed to take her seat. However, she loses her place in a battle to Max from Elite. However, Miss Kate is so enthusiastic about Richelle that she "promoted" her to Group B. She is in love with Noah until she sees him eat. And after the national team, she made it into the A troop. However, she loses in the battle against Max and does not make it into the international team.
  • Cierra (Cierra Healey) is a contemporary dancer who was with Elite for the first two seasons. She has to compete against her sister to get into the international team and makes it.
  • Max (Devon Brown) is an acrobatic dancer from Elite. He joins him in the A group after beating Richelle in the battle.
  • Shantel (Shantel Angela Vailloo) is a single player and doesn't care what other people think of her. She was with Elite for the first two seasons. She leaves the TNS studio after losing to Giselle and failing to become dance captain.
  • Kate (Bree Wasylenko) is the director and owner of The Next Step Studio, she took it over from her mother. She's like a second mother to some in the studio, especially Stephanie. She hates Lucian, the owner of Elite. In Season 4, she is offered the job as a juror in the UK and she leaves The Next Step.
  • Phoebe (Natalie Krill) is the new chief choreographer and Kate's sister. Phoebe is the complete opposite of Kate, she is funnier, but can get very upset if someone doesn't listen to what she is trying to say. She is a great dancer and choreographer.
  • Beth (Megan Meckenizie) is a group B dancer. She is very in love with James and doesn't want to leave him alone. In the final episode of season one, she tells James that she loves him just before the show. In the second season she often asks him for help with dancing, she thinks she is with him, but James tries to convince her that he doesn't love her. Shortly before the National, she admits that he really loves Riley and she has no chance with him.
  • Lucien (Allain Lupien) is the owner and choreographer of the Elite Dance Studio. He tries everything to destroy The Next Step Studio.
  • Chris (Shamier Anderson) is the studio's former chief choreographer until he switched to the 'Superstar Studio' after the regional.
  • Piper (Alexandra Chaves) is the younger sister of James and a contemporary dancer. She didn't join The Next Step Studio until season four, after James left for not wanting to dance in his shadow, and made it into the A group. She caught Alfie and Riley kissing.
