The Pleasance

The Pleasance , also known as Muirfield , is a villa in the Scottish village of Gullane in the East Lothian Council Area . In 1988 the building was included in the Scottish Monuments List in the highest category A.

The Pleasance was built by the Scottish architect Sydney Mitchell , who had the villa built as his own residence.

The villa is located on the northern edge of Gullane next to the golf course of the Muirfield Golf Club . The two-story building is designed in the typical English style and is asymmetrical. On the south-east facing front, a wooden canopy leads to the main entrance. On the right it is led along a protruding wing. To the right of the ornamented entrance area is a servants' quarters, which is connected to the main building via a one-story segment with two flat roof dormers . On the west side there is a central loggia with a curved roof and arched window . The wide chimney is also striking on this side of the building. On the east side there is an elongated garage with a gable roof . On the left, a turret with a hipped roof continues up to the north gable. Along the part Harl -verputzten facades are coupled windows inlaid with wooden mullions.
