The Republic of Desire was a Finnish death and industrial metal band from Lappeenranta that was formed in 1997 and disbanded around 2011.
history
The band was founded in 1997 by Kalle Lindberg (vocals, music programming, keyboards) and guitarist Lasse Alander. The following year, under the name GrooveCore, a first demo followed, which was followed in 1999 and 2001 by the EPs Biopreparat and Songs of Betrayal . Meanwhile the line-up changed several times with the guitarist Panu Askonen and the percussionist Heikki Multanen, who came to and left the band. By 2002 the occupation had stabilized. In addition to Alander and Lindberg, it now consisted of bassist Paavo Alander and drummer Matti Jarva. The keyboard player Erik "ERK_Z" Zacharias was the last to complete the line-up. The self-financed debut album 2.0 Beta (2002) was then recorded, which was followed by the EP Kvber (2005). Ammonite Industries became aware of the band through the EP and signed them. After further line-up changes, with Zacharias, who no longer appeared live, but only worked in the studio, and the addition of the new guitarist Arto Eskola, the next album followed with REALpolitik (2007). In May 2011, another album followed via Inverse Records under the name Tower . Then the band broke up.
style
Gareth JM Saunders from 195metalcds.wordpress.com described REALpolitik as a mixture of death metal and industrial , with electric guitars that sound typical of thrash metal , fast double bass and aggressive vocals. The songs are designed in an interesting and dynamic way, with the latter being caused primarily by the electric guitars, the keyboard, the vocals and the various electronic sounds.
