The Rolling Bridge is a rolling bridge in London.
history
The building, which is only a few meters long, was designed in 2004 as part of the Grand Union Canal office & retail development project by British architect Thomas Heatherwick . The construction consists of eight approximately trapezoidal segments made of steel and wood when viewed from the side and can be rolled up by hydraulic pumps that move shafts below the railing. The entire process of rolling in or rolling up takes 180 seconds. The technology for this is housed in a separate building. When completely rolled up, the bridge forms an octagon . The bridge is rolled up every Friday at lunchtime.
Awards
In 2005 the construction was awarded the Structural Steel Design Award .
