The Thirteenth Sun is a Romanian progressive rock and metal band from Brasov , founded in 2011.
history
The band was founded in 2011 when singer and guitarist Radu Barna and keyboardist Marius Muntean began to write songs together. The following year the drummer Septimiu Hărşan and the guitarist Marius Licu joined them. Then the recordings for the EP Genesis began . During the recording, Flavius Misarăș joined as bassist. The EP was released in December 2012. Shortly after the release, work on new material continued before the recording of the debut album began. The album was released in 2017 under the name Stardust on Aural Music . The following year the group was shown at ProgPower Europe . In the years since the band was founded, the bassist Misarăș was often played live by Alexandru Grigoras for logistical reasons, before he was completely replaced by Alexandru "Alecu" Vizitiu.
style
According to Michael Glaeser from metalogy.de , the band plays atmospheric progressive rock and metal on Stardust , whereby the band is reminiscent of classic progressive rock on the one hand and old, dark and atmospheric songs by Opeth on the other . The gloom is mainly created by the interspersion of elements from Black and Death Metal . The singing is clear and harmonious, but is also interrupted by energetic shouts and dark growls . However, the main focus of the songs are melodies, harmonies and rhythms. The album was also reviewed on wonderboxmetal.com : It was progressive rock and metal with a varied, cosmic, "spacey" and atmospheric character. The music has been described as a mix of atmospheric and progressive Opeth and Arcturus with Subterranean Masquerade and Primordial .
