The Watch is a BBC fantasy series to be released on BBC America . The series is an adaptation of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch from the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett .

background

After Prime Focus Productions had already adapted three Discworld novels, the studio announced in 2011 that it would produce an adaptation on the Ankh-Morpork City Watch under the title The Watch . The following year, however, it was announced that Terry Pratchett's newly founded, own production company Narrativia had taken over for production. The screenwriters Terry Jones , Gavin Scott and Guy Burt were interviewed, who were to write the script under Pratchett's supervision. Thirteen episodes with a duration of 60 minutes each were planned. In 2014 filming was announced for the following year, but Pratchett passed away. His assistant Rob Wilkins then announced that the production work would be continued, but no further announcements would be made until shooting began.

In March 2018 it was announced that BBC Studios is producing the series with Narrativa, which now only has six episodes. The radio station's studios announced that they wanted to start a franchise with The Watch . In October 2018, the US subsidiary of the BBC, BBC America, announced that it had ordered an eight-episode The Watch series. Hilary Simon and Phil Collinson have been announced as executive producers . The scriptwriters were Simon Allen , Joy Wilkinson , Catherine Tregenna , Amrou Al-Khadi and Ed Hime . Craig Viverios directed it . Filming finally began in Cape Town in October 2019 .

The Watch has premiered on air in 2020.
