The Whiffenpoofs ("Whiffs" for short) are considered the oldest male vocal ensemble in the USA . This a cappella choir was founded in 1909 at Yale University . The group initially consisted of 14 singers and became known for their harmonious sound. During his student days at Yale, Cole Porter was its member in 1913. In his honor, the group that still exists today also has some Cole Porter songs in their repertoire.
Today the group is only called the Yale Whiffenpoofs .
