The World / Inferno Friendship Society (also World Inferno ) is a punk rock collective from Brooklyn , New York . Founded in 1996, it combines punk rock, klezmer and jazz. The group had over 30 members so far, only the singer Jack Terricloth stayed through the entire history of the band. The performances often include lengthy improvised commentaries on politics and current affairs as well as interaction with the audience and the spontaneous fulfillment of musical wishes. World Inferno's texts often deal with historical or biographical subjects such as the Weimar Republic , Peter Lorre , Paul Robeson or Jeffrey Lee Pierce .
