Life

As a teenager he devoted himself to music, attended many concerts and wrote articles for fan magazines. For the Slash magazine he took over responsibility for the world music section. He later became chairman of the Blondie Fan Club. In 1980 he met Kid Congo Powers, with whom he founded the band Creeping Ritual a short time later. In their music they combined delta blues , country and punk . At the suggestion of his roommate Keith Morris in Los Angeles , the band was renamed The Gun Club.

In 1981 the debut album Fire of Love was released , but without the participation of Powers, who had already left the band before. It was a success, although some critics classified the band's lyrics as sexist and racist. The album Miami , released a year later , with Debbie Harry as producer, was also well received in the music press. However, high alcohol and drug consumption led to many member changes in the band and after the album The Las Vegas Story (1984) it paused for the first time.

After moving to London , Pierce released his first solo album Wildweed in 1985 , which is considered commercially oriented. He then brought Powers back and started over with The Gun Club. This was followed in 1986 by the album Mother Juno , which is considered one of the best albums by the band.

In 1992, Pierce released an album with classic blues songs and their own compositions based on them under the name Ramblin 'Jeffrey Lee & Cypress Grove With Willie Love . A year later, The Gun Club's last record, Lucky Jim, was released . When his girlfriend Romi Mori, who had played bass in the band, left Pierce, he fell back into drug and alcohol consumption.

Pierce wrote his autobiography Go tell the Mountain in the following years , which was published posthumously in 1998, since he had already died on March 31, 1996 of a brain hemorrhage.
