Theater, film and media studies

Theater, Film and Media Studies (TFM) is a humanities degree that emerged from Theater, Film and Television Studies (TFF). It is or was offered at universities in Bochum , Frankfurt , Cologne and Vienna , among others . It combines theater studies , film studies and media studies .

Course offer

The Vienna Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies, the only one in Austria, with four professorships is the largest such university institute in German-speaking countries. TFF was offered as a minor subject at Goethe University in Frankfurt in the 1980s. Since the TFM Institute was founded, it has also been a major subject. Hans-Thies Lehmann was the head of the Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies in Frankfurt for many years . Lutz Ellrich is the head of the Institute for Theater, Film and Television Studies in Cologne (as of April 2016). In the 2016 summer semester, the Ruhr-Universität Bochum is offering the individual subjects “Film and Audiovisual Media”, “Media Studies”, “Scenic Research” and “Theater Studies” instead of TFM.
