The theater in the pump house

The Theater im Pumpenhaus is an independent theater in Münster, Westphalia, and was opened on May 10, 1985 in a former sewage pumping station. Representatives of the "free theater scene" had come together as an association in the "Theaterinitiative Münster" (TIM). TIM ran the in-house production area until 1998, and since January 1st 1999 the theater has been organized in the legal form of a GmbH .

history

The theater in the pump house was founded over 20 years ago. It was the first independent theater in North Rhine-Westphalia and one of the first nationwide. The Theater im Pumpenhaus has not had its own ensemble since 1999, but offers production and presentation conditions to outstanding artists on a national and international level as well as theater labels from Münster.

In 1985 the theater was opened with the Anabaptist play "Heart of Freedom", directed by Gunther Möllmann. The former Münster theater initiative managed the in-house production area until 1998. After 13 years, the organizational structure of the theater in the pump house was radically changed. The TIM disbanded and the Theater im Pumpenhaus has been organized as a GmbH since January 1st, 1999. The management of the theater is in the hands of Ludger Schnieder, who has been working in the pump house since 1985.

profile

The theater in the pump house offers a platform for independent productions on a professional level. Around 200 events a year are offered to the public, and numerous productions are developed in the rehearsal rooms of the Theater am Hoppengarten. The Theater im Pumpenhaus works as a service provider for the city's professional theater labels and initiates and organizes national and international projects. The repertoire alternates between international guest performances, contemporary international dance theater, the best productions from Münster's theater labels, and especially youth theater.

The broad spectrum is made possible by a network of national and international contacts and, on the other hand, by basic financial support from the city of Münster and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Festival "Statements"

In 2010 the pump house celebrated its 25th birthday with the largest dance and theater festival in the history of the city of Münster. With “Statements” the pump house showed fifty handpicked productions with over 70 performances in 58 days from April to June 2010. Among others, Hotel Pro Forma, Marie Brassard, Forced Entertainment , Gintersdorfer / Klaßen and Showcase Beat Le Mot were there .
