Thebais (hermitage)
As Thebaïs ( Θηβαϊς ) is a special form of early Christian hermitages referred to and their subsequent successor. The name for pictorial representations of hermit life is derived from them. The name Thebais comes from the Thebais region in the Egyptian rocky desert, where this form of hermitage was created.
