Thembinkosi Fanteni (born February 20, 1984 in Cape Town ) is a South African football player .

Career

Fanteni, whom they call “terror” in South Africa, came to the first division club Ajax Cape Town in 2005 from the lower-class club Mother City . The highlight of his time at Ajax was winning the 2007 ABSA Cup against the Mamelodi Sundowns . In October 2007 the hardworking and team-serving striker signed a contract with the Israeli club Maccabi Haifa and moved to his new club for 10 million rand after the transfer window opened in January 2008. At Haifa, Fanteni is a regular goalscorer and contributed to winning the 2009 Israeli championship with eleven goals this season . In 2008 he won the league cup with the team that also includes his compatriot Tsepo Masilela . Since 2009 Fanteni has been playing in his homeland again. For the 2009/10 season Fanteni was under contract with the Orlando Pirates. He has been playing for Ajax Cape Town since summer 2010.

The attacker played for the South African national team for the first time in March 2007 in a friendly against Bolivia. At the beginning of 2008 he was part of the South African squad at the African Cup of Nations in Ghana, but failed to hit three tournaments and was eliminated with the team in the preliminary round. He was appointed to the 2009 Confederations Cup by national coach Joel Santana and made two appearances during the tournament.
