Hillar Kareva

Hillar Kareva (born December 8, 1931 in Tallinn , †  June 17, 1992 ibid) was an Estonian composer .

life and work

Hillar Kareva studied violin after graduating from school and in 1956 completed his composition studies with Eugen Kapp at the Tallinn State Conservatory (TRK). From 1955 to 1966 Kareva was the inspector of the Chamber of Arts of the Estonian SSR . From 1962 to 1967 he was a lecturer in music theory at the Tallinn Music School and from 1966 to 1982 a teacher at the Tallinn State Conservatory.

Kareva is best known as a composer. Greek mythology in particular has inspired many of his works.

Hillar Kareva is the father of the Estonian writer Doris Kareva (* 1958).
