Theodor Askidas
Theodor Askidas († 558 ) was bishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia from 537 to 558 .
Theodore, a monophysite -minded Palestinian monk, was expelled from the Sabas monastery as an Origenist during the Origenist turmoil . In 543, however, he surprisingly agreed to the condemnation of Origen. On his initiative, during the christological disputes of the sixth century in about 544 , Emperor Justinian I issued a decree against three prominent representatives of an alleged Nestorianism: Theodor of Mopsuestia , Theodoret of Kyrrhos and Ibas of Edessa . Instead of reaching an understanding with the Monophysitic (or Miaphysitic) theologians, as was hoped, the so-called three - chapter dispute was triggered.
Pope Vigilius , who agreed to condemn the three chapters under imperial pressure in 547 , later revoked and excommunicated Theodor Askidas and the Constantinople Patriarch Menas .
