Theodor Körner (pear variety)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Theodor Körner pear variety was bred by Jean-Baptiste van Mons and sent by him to the German pomologist Johann Georg Conrad Oberdieck in 1838 as a noble pear . It was part of a consignment of 300 unnamed travelers, of which Oberdieck considered only about 25 worth preserving after processing and testing. He named the variety 'Theodor Körner' and described it in 1870 as a very pleasant, richly bearing table fruit . Jean De Jonghe translated the name, which she received based on the poet Theodor Körner , into Pippin Theodore . It is suitable as a shaped fruit on wild seedlings .
