Theodor Roller
Theodor Roller (born February 22, 1915 in Tübingen ; † October 30, 2008 ibid) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism based on Christian convictions. As an individual, the YMCA member participated in the church struggle .
Life
From 1930 to 1935 Roller was a member of the Hitler Youth , but in 1937 he refused to obey Adolf Hitler because of his Christian convictions. A military court case was opened against him, in the course of which he was referred to the Munich psychiatry with suspected schizophrenia , but was released after four months. In early 1939 he wrote two letters to Adolf Hitler; In the latter of February 11, 1939, he wrote, as was partially reconstructed from the later judgment of the Special Court, among other things:
"As a Christian I call you a liar and as a German I call you the greatest pest that has ever set foot on German soil!"
"But I have one thing that you cannot have: a clear conscience."
"You will lead Germany into the abyss for the seventh year."
Roller was admitted as schizophrenic to the sanatorium and nursing home of Weissenau Monastery by a special court in Stuttgart, despite a contrary psychiatric report, and survived the war there. It was only after his death in 2008 that his resistance became known to a wider public.
In the denazification process, Roller was classified as a "fellow traveler" due to his membership in the Hitler Youth and only exonerated after an objection. The judge of his special court, however, was classified as "unencumbered".
