Theodor Schneider (theologian, 1930)

Theodor Schneider (born May 22, 1930 in Essen ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian.

Schneider studied philosophy and theology in Bonn and Freiburg. He was ordained a priest on February 23, 1956 in Cologne. In 1966 he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD. The Habilitation took place in 1970 with a study on the anthropological formula anima forma corporis in the so-called Korrektorienstreit and Peter Olivi , at the Ruhr University in Bochum , where he also held a short time the chair of dogmatic theology. From 1971 until his retirement in 2000 he was Professor of Dogmatics and Ecumenical Theology at the University of Mainz . He lives in Armsheim .

Schneider has been a member of the Ecumenical Working Group of Protestant and Catholic Theologians since 1976 ; from 1989 to 2005 he served as scientific director on the Catholic side.
