Theodore Boronovskis
Theodore "Ted" Boronovskis (born July 27, 1943 in what is now Latvia ) is a former Australian judoka .
Boronovskis took part in 1964 as one of four Australian judoka at the Olympic premiere of judo at the Olympic Games in Tokyo . The 1.83 m tall Boronovskis started in the open class, with only nine competitors in total. In the preliminary round he defeated John Ryan from Ireland and Ali Hachicha from Tunisia. In the semifinals Boronovskis met Anton Geesink from the Netherlands , after a twelve-second battle Geesink was in the final and Boronovskis received a bronze medal. This was the only medal for an Australian judoka until the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , when Maria Pekli also won bronze.
Boronovskis won seven Australian championship titles: 1962, 1963, 1965 and 1966 in the open class and 1963, 1964 and 1966 in the heavyweight division. At the Oceania Championships in Auckland in 1965, New Zealander John Oosterman won the heavyweight division ahead of Boronovskis.
