Theodosios Monastery

The Theodosioskloster is an Orthodox monastery 11 km east of Bethlehem , near the town of Beit Sahour .

It was founded in 476 by the monk Theodosios , who also has his tomb in the monastery. It experienced its heyday in the 5th to 7th centuries (until it was conquered by the Persians in 614). During the time of the Crusades , the monastery revived, later the buildings fell into disrepair. Since 1896 the monastery has been rebuilt by the Greek Patriarchate of Jerusalem . The current main building was inaugurated in 1952.
