There's Really a Wolf is the first studio album by the American rapper Russ . It was released on May 5, 2017. In addition to his role as a rapper, Russ also takes on the role of sound engineer and producer.

History of origin

A wolf can be seen on the cover of the album, matching the title. Russ explained why this is so in an interview on YouTube with the music information platform Genius. Here he also explains the way to the album. He said that the work process for the album had already started before he had registered on the Soundcloud music platform . His first uploaded song was from 2014. In the interview mentioned above, he described the reasons for registering on Soundcloud and uploading his music as follows:

“It started before I was signed into Soundcloud. I had eleven projects out there. After the eleventh, I planned to do the twelfth. But when I wanted to start, I thought I can't just publish another project that falls on deaf ears again. "

He doesn't use a keyboard or any other physical instrument to play the melodies and instruments for his beats. He prefers the laptop keyboard.

criticism

The hip-hop magazine BACKSPIN awarded six out of ten possible points on its website. The final conclusion was accordingly mixed:

“Even if Russ proves himself to be a strong rapper, singer and producer on“ There's Really a Wolf ”, his debut is only partially convincing. The reason for this is the lack of content diversity [...]. "
