The Thermoplan AG develops, manufactures and sells equipment for food processing (coffee machines, milk and Rahmgeräte) for restaurants, hotels and caterers. The head office is in Weggis in the canton of Lucerne in central Switzerland .

Company history

In 1974 Thermoplan AG was founded to plan and implement ventilation systems in hotels and restaurants. In 1984 the company became a supplier of equipment for the catering industry and initially developed and produced equipment for the preparation of whipped cream and later for the preparation of milk foam. In 1985 the company headquarters was relocated from Küssnacht am Rigi to Weggis. At the end of the 1980s, Thermoplan had 17 employees. In 1995, Thermoplan designed a fully automatic coffee machine with a modular structure. In 1999 there was a supply agreement with Starbucks for the equipment with fully automatic coffee machines. Two years later, the development department developed a milk system that produces cold milk foam. In the same year, Plant 2 in Weggis was completed. At that time the company had over 70 employees. Other major customers such as McDonalds, IKEA and Karstadt were added. Plant 3 in Weggis went into operation in 2006. As of 2008, all Starbucks coffee houses worldwide have been equipped with Thermoplan machines. In 2012, Thermoplan AG received a development and production order for a coffee machine from Nespresso. Costa Coffee joined as a customer in 2013. Thermoplan developed a premium vending coffee machine. Plant 4 followed in 2014. 224 people were employed at the Weggis site. The company currently employs around 250 people at its Weggis location and sells its coffee machines in 72 countries worldwide. Thermoplan AG has an export share of 98%.

Subsidiaries

Thermoplan Deutschland GmbH was founded in 1998. In 2007 the company moved into operating rooms in Hockenheim .

In order to be present on the American continent, Thermoplan USA was founded in 2003 in Reno in the state of Nevada. The main activity is the commercial and technical support of the core business of Starbucks in the USA and Canada. The branch is also active in Latin American countries.

In 2011, Thermoplan Austria GmbH was founded by taking over the company shares of the central sales partner in Austria.
