Thermoplastic vulcanizates
Thermoplastic vulcanizates ( TPV ) are a group of thermoplastic and elastic plastics at the same time . They combine the inexpensive processability of thermoplastics with the elastic properties of elastomers. The best-known TPV is Santoprene , which consists of ethylene-propylene-diene rubber particles (EPDM) in a matrix of polypropylene (PP).
Santoprene was launched by Monsanto in 1981 . In 1991, ExxonMobil and Solutia , the spin-off of Monsanto's chemicals business, founded the joint venture Advanced Elastomer Systems (AES) . It is now fully owned by ExxonMobil.
