These New Puritans (TNPS) are a British band from Southend-on-Sea . The band consists of the singer Jack Barnett, his twin brother George Barnett (bass), Thomas Hein on drums and Sophie Sleigh-Johnson on keyboards. They have released four albums so far.
Band history
In a 2008 interview, Jack Barnett explains that hip-hop group Wu Tang Clan , particularly RZA , influenced the group's first album, Beat Pyramid . He mentions the music of Aphex Twin and the cartoon series "The Smurfs" as further influences.
Before the second album "Hidden" was released, Barnett said he had been writing music for the bassoon for some time and said that the work was aimed at a product in which dancehall would meet Steve Reich .
The live performance of the album "Hidden" was accompanied by a five-piece wind ensemble. In 2010 the band gave a series of live performances of the album "Hidden" (accompanied by a wind ensemble, also taiko drums, a children's choir, vibraphonist and a professional noise maker) under the title Hidden Live in venues such as the Barbian Center , the Center Georges Pompidou and the Berghain in Berlin. Essential excerpts from these concerts appeared on the live album Expanded (Live at the Barbican) in 2014.
In spring 2019 the band released their fourth album Inside the Rose.
